Our Story

Higher Gear began in 1993 and has always reached out to both families and enthusiasts. On the weekends, morning rides are available from each store location and are organized to appeal to riders of all speeds and experience levels. Additional rides during the week are organized for women riders and appeals to riders new to the sport and more advanced riders. Click Here for more information about our Events & Rides.

The nearly 1,600-square foot shop is open at Plaza del Lago, 1515 Sheridan Road in Wilmette, IL and features some of the most historic brands in cycling including Colnago, Seven, Specialized, Scott and Bianchi. The Wilmette location joins the other store at 1898 North Sheridan Road in Highland Park, IL. These two locations serve to book end a ten-mile stretch of road that is a favorite for most cyclists in the Chicagoland area.

We strive to make visiting Higher Gear an enjoyable experience. There is no air of superiority among our sales associates. We don't care what your cycling credentials are, we're just interested in finding the right bike for you and your family.
